Sa sandaling piliin mong mamuhay sa isang kasinungalingan—maging ito man ay isang kasinungalingan na sinasabi mo sa mundo, o mas malala pa, isang kasinungalingan na sinasabi mo sa iyong sarili—ang iyong puso ay unti-unting kinukuha, pira-piraso por-piraso, hanggang sa wala nang matira para punan ang sagradong espasyong tinatawag nating PAG-IBIG.

Bawat maskara na isinusuot mo para magkasya, bawat katotohanang itinatago mo para mapasaya ang iba, bawat damdaming ibinaon mo para magmukhang malakas, bawat pangarap na itinatanggi mong sundin ang "inaasahan" sa iyo, bawat salitang binibigkas mo na hindi naaayon sa tunay na alam ng iyong kaluluwa—bawat isa ay isang maliit na piraso ng iyong puso, napunit at nawala magpakailanman. Iniisip mong pinoprotektahan mo ang iyong sarili, o iniiwasan ang alitan, o ginagawang mas madali ang mga bagay. Ngunit ang talagang ginagawa mo ay inaalisan ng laman ang pinakasentro ng kung sino ka.

Ang pag-ibig—tunay, malalim, at pangmatagalang pag-ibig—ay hindi maaaring mabuhay sa isang pusong nabuwal ng pagkukunwari. Ang pag-ibig ay hindi lamang isang pakiramdam, ito ay isang koneksyon. At hindi ka tunay na makakakonekta sa kahit sino, o kahit ano, kung hindi ka man lang konektado sa iyong sarili. Paano ka makakapagbigay ng pagmamahal, kung naibigay mo na ang lahat ng bahagi ng kung sino ka talaga, para lang maipakita ang iyong sarili? Paano ka makakatanggap ng pagmamahal, kung walang sinuman—kahit ang mga taong pinakamalapit sa iyo—ang tunay na nakakakilala sa iyo?

Ang mabuhay na may kasinungalingan ay parang paglakad sa buhay bilang isang estranghero sa iyong sarili. Ito ay ang pagpasan ng isang mabigat na pasanin na lalong bumibigat araw-araw, hanggang sa makalimutan mo kung ano ang pakiramdam ng maging magaan, maging malaya, at makita. Ipinagpapalit mo ang iyong pagiging tunay para sa pagsang-ayon, ang iyong kapayapaan para sa panlabas na anyo, at sa huli, nawawala mo ang mismong bagay na nagpapahalaga sa buhay: ang kakayahang magmahal at mahalin, nang buo at tunay.

Ngunit kapag pinili mong mamuhay lamang nang may katotohanan tungkol sa iyong sarili—kapag naninindigan ka nang mataas sa iyong sariling kwento, sa iyong sariling mga pinahahalagahan, sa iyong sariling mga kalakasan at kapintasan, sa iyong sariling mga kagalakan at mga pilat—pinapanatili mong buo at ligtas ang bawat piraso ng iyong puso.

Ang katotohanan ang tanging lupa kung saan maaaring lumago ang pag-ibig. Ito ang tanging pundasyon na hindi kailanman nabibitak, ang tanging wikang laging naiintindihan. Kapag tapat ka sa kung sino ka, hindi mo lang basta inililigtas ang puso mo—ginagawa mo itong karapat-dapat sa pinakadakilang pagmamahal: ang pagmamahal na utang mo sa iyong sarili, at ang pagmamahal na dapat mong ibahagi sa mundo.
