Remulla justifies ICC jurisdiction over 'individuals'
#icymi | In what can be considered as a controversial view, Justice Secretary Boying Remulla justified before a Senate hearing that the International Criminal Court (ICC) still has jurisdiction over individuals in the Philippines, even if the ICC does not have jurisdiction over the country.
"It is not the Philippines that is under jurisdiction — it is the individuals who are charged by the ICC which is under the jurisdiction. There is a distinction," confusing statement by the DOJ Secretary.
"The ICC has no jurisdiction over us as a country, but over the individuals who may have committed crimes that violate International Humanitarian Law," he added.
