Grand Egyptian Museum Opens

#egypt has opened the Grand Egyptian Museum, a $1 billion project just 1.2 miles (1.9 km) from the Giza Pyramids, that narrates more than 5,000 years of ancient Egyptian history. This long-awaited landmark took two decades to construct, deliberately paying homage to Egypt's cultural heritage. Its design echoes the geometry of a pyramid, and its northern and southern walls are aligned with the Pyramid of Khufu and the Pyramid of Menkaure.

The main attractions include the 3,200-year-old statue of King Ramses II, the complete collection of Tutankhamun’s treasures, and a 4,500-year-old boat belonging to Khufu, the pharaoh renowned for building the Great Pyramid of Giza. Tourism is a major portion of Egypt's economy with a record 15.7 million tourists visiting Egypt in 2024, contributing to roughly eight percent of the country’s gross domestic product.
